Silver Hollow Litter Three Week Update

Take a look at these huge puppies! Wow, they have grown and changed a lot in the past week. They are walking, eyes are open, and they are starting to play with each other. They had their first visitors over the weekend and reacted very well to the new humans, big and small, taking it all in stride.

Welcome to The Closer to Home Litter

Eight puppies were born to Spook Nook Nukka and Sirius Rising Jon Snow (Baxter) on April 25, 2019. There are 3 males, and 5 females, with 4 being black and tan, and 4 being tawny. Time will tell if the muzzles on the tawny pups stay dark or lighten with time.

The last litter, Glacial Calves, took its inspiration from Greenland and its calving icebergs. The puppies were all named after cities in Greenland. This time we are bringing our Chinooks closer to home. The puppy names are taken from places in Spook Nook Chinook’s hometown of Cornwall, Connecticut. Through the puppies you will get a glimpse of this small hill town in southern New England, and some of its ponds, water courses, “mountains”, forests, and valleys.

Tarradiddle Mountain may not be much of a mountain, in the opinion of some, but we are only in the foothills of the Berkshires, and we are in Connecticut. While it is not visible in this photo, Tarradiddle rises sharply on the eastern bank of the Housatonic River just north of the village of West Cornwall

Mohawk Pond is a deep, spring-fed pond within the Mohawk State Forest that has always been a popular fishing hole in both summer and winter. On the far shore is the “swimming” rock. The trails adjacent to the pond are a favorite location for Spook Nook Chinooks to sled, bkjor, or skijor.

The Housatonic River is a well-known trout stream popular with fly fishers from all around the country. It runs from western Massachusetts all the way down to Long island Sound, passing under the West Cornwall Covered Bridge, which opened in 1841. The river divides Cornwall, on the east bank, from the town of Sharon, on the west. The one-timed dammed river is now free-flowing here and in its upper reaches.

Welcome to The Silver Hollow Litter

The Silver Hollow Litter arrived today in Willow, NY, 3 girls and 2 big boys. The dam and sire are Spook Nook Munjebel (from the Glacial Calves Litter of 2015, Narsaq, with the black ribbon), and Granite Hill High Noon (Lancet). You can find photos of mom and dad under “Satellite Litters”.

Individual photos of all the puppies should arrive here tomorrow. In the meantime, Munjebel is being a great mom. She and pups are all doing well.

Spook Nook Phoenix 10/26/15-1/19/16

Phoenix (Kulusuk) began having seizures when she was 8 weeks old. Several stays with the emergency vet, regular vet, and drugs failed to get them under control, so I made the very painful decision to let her go at the age of 12 weeks. It was not fair to her to be forced to live with constant anxiety, and the terror of the seizures.

I feel fortunate to have shared the joy of her, even for such a short time. She was a super smart and sweet puppy with great potential. All of us at Spook Nook Chinooks miss her greatly.

Glacial Calves Litter Gone Home

Join me in one last look over our shoulders at these great pups from the Glacial Calves Litter, as most have gone to their forever homes. Things have quieted down here considerably. Nukka (Ilulissat) joins the Spook Nook pack, and Phoenix (Kulusuk) will be, at least for now, staying on with the Spook Nook pack. All pups have settled in with their new families and are experiencing many new things, from deep snow to lots of traffic and noise. Watch for them, as they grow, on Facebook or on Chinook Fun Spot. Oh, Mr. Paamiut, living in Alaska, now goes by Grimm. I want to thank everyone for their support and encouragement during this exciting first litter.

Glacial Calves Turn 8 Weeks Old

The puppies have started to go to their forever homes. All the boys have gone to their homes, as has Qaanaaq. By all accounts, all are settling in well and having many new adventures. That leaves five girls, who seem to be more active as a group, maybe trying to make up for their absent siblings. These blog posts will be winding down, with one more post after all the pups have gone to their homes, but you will probably be seeing them on Facebook, and other social media outlets. Glacial Calves Seven Week Update

Unbelievable that in less than a week the puppies will begin to go to their forever homes. They have really blossomed in the past week, with personalities that become more defined with each passing day. They have a number of forays into the greater yard beyond their fenced yard. As they have gained a sense of independence it has become increasingly important to have a couple extra puppy wranglers on hand for the times they fan out in all directions. Reine continues to allow them to feed, and never does more than a limp effort to sweep them away with her head.
