Stars and Stripes Pups are 4 Weeks Old!

What a week for these pups! They had their first taste of goat’s milk, and then with a little food mixed in. They are responding well to the diet change and have grown, grown, grown! Blackjack finally caught up and passed Buzz on the scales, and Ike is no longer the smallest. That is currently Holly, though, she burns a lot of calories by lots and lots of play! As you can see from the photos, they have also had their first trips outside onto grass and other new surfaces. They are also starting to have some visitors to keep them entertained.

The Stars and Stripes Litter Turns 3 Weeks Old!

The pups are getting big very quickly. Their sharp little teeth are starting to make momma Willow a little uncomfortable and she is starting to spend a little time away from them. However, those moments of rest may not last long for Willow as the pups are getting more mobile every day. Although, they are still a bit wobbly, they are able to escape the whelping box whenever they spy their momma lounging nearby.

The Stars and Stripes Litter Celebrates 2 Weeks!

These puppies are growing fast. All have their eyes open, and they are taking their first wobbly steps, an exciting time for all! Willow continues to be a great, and doting mom. Ike has made great strides, gaining on his siblings. Undaunted by being smaller, he was the first to open his eyes, and one of the first to try taking some steps.

The Stars and Stripes Litter is One Week Old!

Pups are already one week old and growing quickly. They have all double their birth weight, including Ike, who had a slow and tenuous beginning. Willow is being a great and doting mom with them. Even though they can’t walk yet they manage to move around the whelping box with amazing ability. They are also getting quite vocal, and their tan points are becoming more evident.

Please welcome five puppies, born on August 21, 2022 to Spook Nook Willow and Sirius Rising Praus.
There are three males and two females and a real rarity in the Chinook world being all black and tan!
The puppies were born at Fort Meade in Maryland. They are all military brats, so it is fitting that they are named in honor of notable West Point graduates.

Triple Crown Litter is 8 Weeks Old & Going Home

Kincsem and Kelso

The puppies turned 8 weeks old on Saturday, and two (Alydar and Ruffian) had already headed to their forever homes by the time I arrived. Kincsem and Kelso left with their families a little later, while Seabiscuit and Zanyatta settled in for another week before they go to their homes. They all have been handling their dwindling pack size very well, and by all reports, the pups in their new homes have been doing great! They certainly grew a lot in the less than two weeks since my previous visit. Here are a few photos for you to enjoy from Saturday. I want to thank Donna and Peter Russell of Wachusett Chinooks for doing such a great job raising these fabulous group of puppies. We look forward to watching them grow and develop.

Triple Crown Litter will 7 Weeks Old Tomorrow

My visit and photos are from a few days ago, when they were 6 1/2 weeks old. They have grown a lot since my last visit! They are getting lots of access to the outdoors via a large deck and an even larger penned-in grassy area. They have lots of interactions with people and the adult Chinooks in the pack. It is fun to watch their exuberant play and they increasingly complex interactions with each other.

Ruffian may be the smallest pup, but her name suits her. She could have been named Tuffian, as well, because she will take no guff from any of the other puppies!

Triple Crown Litter is 5 Weeks Old!

These pups have really grown! They have had many visitors and have had their first taste of the outdoors. That was very exciting! Their amazing mom, Guen, has even left the milk bar open, ouch! They are learning about using a litter box too.
